Shirley Xue Yang

Shirley Xue Yang is a PhD candidate in the School of Media, Communication and Sociology at the University of Leicester. Her research areas of interest are stardom and celebrity culture, girlhood studies, feminist media studies, queer theory, and intersectionality studies. Prior to pursuing her Master’s degree in the UK (at the University of Leicester), she worked as a senior copywriter for a commercial company in Shanghai.

Bowen Zhang

Bowen Zhang holds a PhD in Chinese place branding from the University of Leicester. He is currently working as a Research Fellow at the Communication University of China, Beijing. Originally from Inner Mongolia, China, he has studied Trade and Economy (at Chongqing Technology and Business University) and International Business (at the University of Lincoln). He worked as a branding consultant for a branding company in Chongqing before deciding to pursue a PhD. Besides his main research of Chinese place branding, he also has interests in social media, film studies, and Chinese feminism and gender studies.
