Tipping Point: Kay S. Lawrence's exhibition on climate emergency

Pages 1053-1057 | Published online: 04 May 2021

ABSTRACT

In January 2020, I collaborated with Brisbane-based artist Kay S. Lawrence to produce Tipping Point, an art exhibition on climate emergency hosted at House Conspiracy, Brisbane, Australia. Lawrence's art addresses climate emergency both politically through references to coal, animal extinction, and Australian policy, and poetically through metaphors conveyed with delicate materials, vertical arrangements, and stitching techniques. The exhibition communicated that we have reached a tipping point in regard to environmental disaster, as well as amoral tipping point regarding urgent community responses to the climate emergency.
