Abstract

A bionic bend-twist coupled thin-walled beam was designed based on the structure of rice stem. Due to the weak link among the longitudinal strengthening ribs, the bionic bend-twist coupled beam can maintain its longitudinal stiffness while decreasing its torsional constraint. It could make the beam avoid the decrease of bend-twist coupled ratio due to the torsional constraint from the additional small fiber angle layer. Multi-objective optimization was used to improve the mechanical performances of the bionic beam. Results show that after optimization, the mechanical performances of gradient bionic beam are higher than those of the original beam in all aspects.
