Abstract

A two-scale computational continua (C2) model is proposed for the multiscale analysis of honeycomb sandwich plates. In this model, the macroscopic problem is simulated by the third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT), while a single computational unit cell (CUC) with facesheets and honeycomb core is regarded as the microscopic problem and it is discretized by the 3D solid elements, so the proposed model is called as two-scale C2-TSDT. In the numerical examples, the results of proposed C2 model are compared with these of the direct numerical simulation (DNS) model and the homogenization model, and a good agreement is achieved.
