Abstract

Based on the original bone structure and components, medical PEEK modified by adding multi-doped nano hydroxyapatite and calcium carbonate whiskers to match the mechanical properties of the original bone compositions, and adapted microcellular foam process to obtain the hierarchical porous functionally graded structure. The addition of adsorbent-active cross-linking agents, such as Type I collagen, osteo-inductive fluid, and active enzymes were used to improve the hydrophobicity of the medical PEEK material surface. The multi-constituent elements and gradient pore structure similar to the original bone were easier to activate the modified material surface, produce cell adsorption and promote cell growth and differentiation.
