Helical twisting power enhancement by adding banana-shaped molecules

Abstract

Banana-shaped molecules with chiral conformations have been widely studied in supramolecular systems. Herein, it was found that the helical twisting power of a chiral dopant was enhanced with the addition of some banana-shaped molecules. The quantum chemistry calculations indicated that the banana-shaped molecules were feasible to form chiral conformations. One of the chiral conformations should prefer to be formed in the cholesteric liquid crystalline mixture.
