ABSTRACT

Natural fiber-reinforced composites are considered one of the most potential green material types for various industrial applications. This work aims to determine the most potential natural fibers found in Jordan to enhance natural fiber composites based upon integrated physical and mechanical intrinsic characteristics. This in order would develop more realistic database for potential natural source of such renewable green fibers in the Mediterranean region. A series of experimental works have been carried out according to the ASTM standards to reveal the potential characteristics of natural fibers. All density, moisture content, tensile strength, tensile modulus, and elongation to break properties were systematically assessed and determined for various natural fibers found in Jordan. Results have revealed various potential characteristics for such considered fibers to be implemented in natural fiber composites. Several natural fibers were found to have better characteristics than commonly used fibers worldwide. Results have also enhanced the development of proper evaluation methodology for assessing and selecting natural fibers to expand utilizing new natural types for green products.
