Thinking out of the box

Pages 5-18 | Received 06 Nov 2019, Accepted 22 Nov 2019, Published online: 04 Dec 2019

ABSTRACT

Never has the phrase 'thinking out of the box' resonated more appropriately for the field of child welfare than now. With the passage of the Strengthening Families Act and the re-conceptionalization of child welfare by the Children's Bureau toward primary prevention, it is an exciting and propitious time for thinking more broadly and unconventionally about how to best provide child welfare services to children and families through a diverse, skilled, and committed workforce. Developing the workforce needed for a prevention based child welfare system for the future while addressing the workforce challenges of the present will be challenging but also presents another opportunity for 'out of the box' thinking.
