Optimal area under greenhouse cultivation for tomato production

ABSTRACT

Determining the optimal area of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) production under protected culture can improve production efficiency. Thirty-five greenhouse tomato growers were randomly selected and provided questionnaires from which data were extracted to determine optimal area under greenhouse cultivation. The Cobb-Douglas function was best for fitting relationships between inputs used to determine optimum tomato greenhouse area, 13.8 ha. This is the production area of tomato under greenhouse cultivation that should not be exceeded so that the efficiency of production and returns can be optimized.
