Notes
1 In the United States, the expression ‘K-12’ refers to education from kindergarten through Grade 12, comprising primary and secondary education of students ages 5–18. Social studies in the American education system is a subject that encompasses humanities and social science, with the goal of teaching students to be civically engaged and informed citizens. Social studies curriculum depends on educational standards adopted by each individual state, with many of these standards systems significantly de-emphasizing social studies in favor of subjects like mathematics and reading.
