Elia Duran-Smith
Elia Duran-Smith has previously been an intern for the Chatham House International Security Programme where they researched novel approaches to nuclear policy and decision making, factors that can cause strains in aid donor and recipient state relations, space governance and quantum technologies. They previously gained a master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Glasgow, focusing particularly on defence and security as well as North East Asian affairs, writing their dissertation on US-DPRK nuclear relations and the Hanoi and Singapore summits. They are primarily interested in researching nuclear weapons issues, the impact of modern technologies on security and defence, as well as transatlantic and Northeast Asian security. They have contributed to working papers offering policy recommendations to the 2020 NPT RevCon and 2023 Prepcom, and the TPNW 1MSP.
