Abstract
Under hydrothermal conditions, a new zinc compound, [Zn(2,2’-bpy)3]2S·16H2O·2OH (1) (2,2’-bpy = 2,2’-bipyridine) was synthesized and structurally characterized by using a single-crystal X-ray diffraction method. This compound is characteristic of an isolated (0-D) structure. A solid-state photoluminescence experiment revealed that it shows blue emission, in combination with molecular orbital (MO) calculations, lead us to conclude that the emission originates from the ligand-to-metal charge-transfer (LMCT) transition. Complex 1 possesses CIE chromaticity coordinates of (0.0782, 0.1973). A solid-state UV/Vis diffuse reflectance spectrum measurement unveiled that this compound features a wide optical band gap of 2.03 eV.
