Note: This figure shows the number of firms of the European Economic Area as reported in the Amadeus database (dashed line) and the Orbis database (solid line) between 2001 and 2017 (Download: 3 September 2020). The data represents the universe of unconsolidated financial statements accessed through the Wharton Research Data Service (WRDS). In the Orbis database, we require the consolidation code (conscode) to be ‘U1’ or ‘U2’ and in the Amadeus database, we require the reporting basis (repbas) to be ‘Unconsolidated Data’. We only consider firms with non-missing and non-negative total assets.
