On One Type of Generalized Vandermonde Determinants

Abstract

An expression including symmetric polynomials for the determinant of one type of generalized Vandermonde matrix is presented leading to a handy formula to compute determinants of general Toeplitz band matrices.

João Lita da Silva

JOÃO LITA DA SILVA was born in 1975, completed his first degree in mathematics in 1997 and his M.Sc. in functional analysis and partial differential equations in 2001, both at the University of Lisbon. He received his Ph.D. in statistics from the New University of Lisbon in 2007. His research interests include linear algebra, matrix theory, statistics, and probability theory.
