The orientation dependences of electric field effect on dielectric behaviors of relaxor-based 0.9PMN–0.1PT crystal were revealed by examining the biased dielectric properties. The relaxor states extend at the range from 10°C to 80°C under zero dc bias field with different frequencies, but DC bias field could modulate the domain states and induce a stable ferroelectric macrodomain state apparently in the ⟨001⟩-orientated crystal under 300 V/mm electric field. The electric permittivity of the poled crystals disclosed the existence of the transformation between microdomain state with randomly distributed dipoles and metastable ferroelectric state with dipoles partially oriented.
