Abstract
Molten alkali corrosion test has been carried out for the alumina-based crucibles with different MgO/(SiO 2 +MgO) ratios to determine the container composition suitable for the firing of lead-free (Na 0.5 K 0.5 )NbO 3 (NKN) piezoelectric ceramics. The alumina crucibles with MgO/(SiO 2 +MgO) ratios of 0.20 and 0.25 showed the best corrosion resistance and prevented the degradation of NKN ceramics in their dielectric and ferroelectric properties. It was confirmed that the electric property of alkali niobate piezoelectric ceramics was strongly correlated with the durability of the crucible against alkali corrosion.
