Experimental analysis of a corona-charged baghouse filter

ABSTRACT

This paper describes an experimental investigation of a modified baghouse filter (BHF) configuration for enhancing the collection efficiency of a medium filter. Most baghouses use cylindrical woven or non-woven filter bags as a filter medium. Particles are captured on the filter, and the clean gas escapes. A modified configuration of the BHF is proposed, and the proposed configuration was experimentally tested. The medium filter was electrically charged by corona discharge to enhance the collection efficiency. The obtained results indicate that once the filter is charged, the collection efficiency increases depending on several factors, such as the applied voltage, gas flowrate and particle diameter.
