ABSTRACT
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) has been under Russian occupation since 3 March 2022. Since then, critical situations have arisen continually, requiring shutdown of the power units. The current situation threatens nuclear catastrophe and, also, environmental challenges that demand urgent preventive measures. We make comparison with threats at Chornobyl NPP; identify measures to optimise the environmental situation and minimise nuclear risks at Zaporizhzhia; and consider possibilities of applying the norms and requirements of international law, and the effectiveness of international authorised organisations.
