ABSTRACT
Architectural heritage is a pillar of national identity but its protection is a complex process. In Ukraine’s case, legislation needs to be improved – other countries’ experience suggests that new elements should be added – and new government departments are needed. Equally, it is crucial to involve the citizenry, in particular through the establishment of private funds and civil society activities. Grant support from overseas can be invaluable so international cooperation is also needed.
