Whole and/or in bits: Bohm, Matte Blanco, and (un)consciousness

ABSTRACT

Psychoanalysis can be conceptualized as a process of shifting unconscious knowing into consciously graspable forms. Theoretical physicist and author David Bohm considers the order of the individual psyche and links it to the order of the universe, conceptualizing both as an unbroken and unified system. Matte Blanco focuses on the unfolding function of the symmetrical position, and Kristeva highlights the poetic language of psychoanalysis, drawing us closer to the flow of experience of the indivisible symmetrical mode. Thus, the aim of the psychoanalytic enterprise is not merely to “understand” unconscious contents in conscious forms, but to promote symbolic processes which lead to discovery and creativity, and which allow greater access to the unconscious or indivisible mode.

La psychanalyse peut être conceptualisée comme un processus favorisant la transformation d’un savoir inconscient en une forme consciemment compréhensible. Le physicien-théoricien et auteur, David Bohm, considère l’ordre de la psyché de l’individu et le relie à l’ordre de l’univers. Il conceptualise ces deux ordres du point de vue d’un système continu et unifié. Matte Blanco axe sa réflexion sur la fonction d’ouverture de la position symétrique et Kristeva, quant à elle, met l’accent sur le langage poétique de la psychanalyse, en nous rapprochant au plus près du flux de l’expérience de l’indivisibilité du mode symétrique. Ainsi, l’entreprise analytique ne vise pas seulement la « compréhension » consciente de contenus inconscients, mais également le développement de processus symboliques qui mènent à la découverte et à la créativité et permettent un meilleur accès au mode inconscient ou indivisible.

Die Psychoanalyse lässt sich als ein Prozess konzipieren, durch den unbewusstes Wissen in bewusst erfassbare Formen verwandelt wird. Der theoretische Physiker und Autor David Bohm untersucht die Ordnung der individuellen Psyche und bringt sie mit der Ordnung des Universums in Verbindung, indem er beide als intaktes, ganzheitliches System konzipiert. Matte Blanco lenkt die Aufmerksamkeit auf die sich entfaltende Funktion der symmetrischen Position, und Kristeva unterstreicht die poetische Sprache der Psychoanalyse, indem sie uns näher an den Erfahrungsfluss des unteilbaren symmetrischen Modus heranführt. Das Ziel des psychoanalytischen Unterfangens besteht somit nicht lediglich darin, unbewusste Inhalte in bewussten Formen zu „verstehen“, sondern Symbolisierungsprozesse zu fördern, die Entdeckungen und Kreativität ermöglichen und den Zugang zum unbewussten oder unteilbaren Modus erweitern.

Si può pensare alla psicoanalisi come a un processo che favorisce il passaggio da un tipo di sapere inconscio a forme maggiormente accessibili alla coscienza. Considerando l’ordine della psiche individuale e mettendolo in relazione a quello dell’universo, il fisico teorico David Bohm concettualizza entrambi come un solo sistema non discontinuo, e anzi fondamentalmente unificato. In ambito analitico Matte Blanco si concentra sul dispiegarsi della funzione della posizione simmetrica, e Kristeva sottolinea per parte sua la natura poetica del linguaggio della psicoanalisi grazie a cui possiamo meglio accostarci al flusso di esperienza che caratterizza l’indivisibile modo simmetrico. In quest’ottica, l’obiettivo del percorso psicoanalitico non si limiterà al “capire” contenuti inconsci in forme conscie, ma consisterà nel promuovere dei processi simbolici che da un lato portano a nuove scoperte e a un’accresciuta creatività, e dall’altro consentono al paziente di accedere in modo più pieno all’inconscio o al modo indivisibile.

El psicoanálisis puede ser conceptualizado como un proceso de desplazamiento del conocimiento inconsciente a formas aprehensibles por la conciencia. El físico teórico y autor David Bohm estudia el orden de la psique individual y lo vincula con el orden del universo, concibiendo a ambos como un sistema indiviso y unificado. Matte Blanco se centra en la función de despliegue de la posición simétrica, y Kristeva resalta el lenguaje poético del psicoanálisis, acercándonos más al flujo de la experiencia del modo simétrico indivisible. Así, el propósito de la empresa psicoanalítica no es solo “entender” los contenidos inconscientes en formas conscientes, sino promover procesos simbólicos que conduzcan al descubrimiento y a la creatividad, lo que permite un mayor acceso al modo inconsciente o indivisible.
