Criteria	Category
Occurrence	X=the absence of any record in pollen analyses
OX–4	1=an occasional record
	2=a regular occurrence
	3=a regular occurrence, often in considerable numbers
	4=ubiquitous types dependent upon the nature of source vegetation
Pollination mode	W=wind-pollinated taxa
W, I, V, A	I=pollination by insects or other invertebrates
	V=pollination by vertebrates, birds, or other animals
	A=water pollinated
Pollen production	1=low pollen production
P1–3	2=moderate pollen production
	3=prolific pollen production
Dispersal	1=restricted distribution
D1–3	2=a distribution within a few kilometres of the source
	3=grains that may be widely distributed, often over great distances
