ABSTRACT
Uneven and combined development. Regional Studies. The concept of uneven and combined development (U&CD) interprets dynamic historical change and comparative geographical differentiation in terms of the co-existence of tendencies towards differentiation and equalization of the conditions of production, consumption, distribution and exchange, deriving from capital accumulation and political multiplicity. U&CD entails a conception of the global system as a constellation of interdependent, national institutional configurations and interests that shape international/national/regional trends. To explain geographies of industrialization and urbanization and current trends towards a pluri-centric world, U&CD requires, however, a specification of the underlying causal mechanisms, examined in economic geography, international relations and developmental state theories.

不均与联合发展。Regional Studies. 不均与联合发展（U&CD）的概念，从资本积累和政治多元化中衍生出的迈向生产、消费、分配和交换条件的差异化和均值化的共存趋势，诠释历史变迁动态和相对地理差异。U&CD导致了全球系统作为形塑国际／国家／区域趋势的相互依赖之国家制度配置与利益之汇聚的概念。但为了解释工业化与城市化，以及当前迈向多核心世界的地理，U&CD需要以经济地理学、国际关係和发展型国家理论进行检视的基础因果机制之明确说明。
RÉSUMÉ
Le développement déséquilibré et combiné. Regional Studies. La notion de développement déséquilibré et combiné (uneven and combined development; U&CD) cherche à interpréter l’évolution historico-dynamique et la différenciation comparative géographique en termes de la co-existence des tendances à la différenciation et à l’égalisation des conditions de production, de consommation, de distribution et d’échange, ce qui provient de l’accumulation du capital et de la multiplicité politique. L’U&CD suppose une notion du système mondial comme une myriade de configurations institutionnelles, nationales, interdépendantes qui façonnent les tendances régionales/nationales/internationales. Afin d’expliquer les géographies de l’industrialisation et de l’urbanisation et les tendances actuelles à un monde pluricentrique, l’U&CD nécessite toutefois une spécification des mécanismes sous-jacents en jeu, examinés dans le cadre de la géographie économique, des relations internationales et des théories du développement des états.
ZUSAMMENFASSUNG
Ungleichmäßige und kombinierte Entwicklung. Regional Studies. Bei dem Konzept der ungleichmäßigen und kombinierten Entwicklung werden der dynamische historische Wandel und eine vergleichende geografische Differenzierung hinsichtlich der Koexistenz von Tendenzen zur Differenzierung und Ausgleichung der durch Kapitalansammlung und politische Multiplizität entstehenden Bedingungen für Produktion, Verbrauch, Verteilung und Austausch interpretiert. Die ungleichmäßige und kombinierte Entwicklung beinhaltet eine Konzeption des globalen Systems als Konstellation ineinandergreifender nationaler institutioneller Konfigurationen und Interessen, die die internationalen, nationalen und regionalen Trends prägen. Zur Erklärung der Geografien der Industrialisierung und Urbanisierung sowie der aktuellen Trends hin zu einer plurizentrischen Welt benötigt das Konzept der ungleichmäßigen und kombinierten Entwicklung jedoch eine Spezifizierung der zugrundeliegenden kausalen Mechanismen, die in den Theorien der Wirtschaftsgeografie, der internationalen Beziehungen und des entwicklungsfördernden Staates untersucht werden.
RESUMEN
Desarrollo combinado y desequilibrado. Regional Studies. El concepto del desarrollo combinado y desequilibrado interpreta el cambio histórico dinámico y la diferenciación geográfica comparativa en cuanto a la coexistencia de tendencias hacia la diferenciación y ecualización de las condiciones de producción, consumo, distribución e intercambio, que se derivan de la acumulación de capital y la multiplicidad política. El desarrollo combinado y desequilibrado implica una concepción del sistema global como una constelación de configuraciones institucionales y nacionales interdependientes e intereses que determinan las tendencias internacionales, nacionales y regionales. Para explicar las geografías de la industrialización y la urbanización así como las tendencias actuales hacia un mundo pluricéntrico, el desarrollo combinado y desequilibrado requiere no obstante una especificación de los mecanismos causales subyacentes, que se analizan en las teorías de la geografía económica, las relaciones internacionales y el Estado desarrollista.

1. In 1910–50 and especially in 1950–80, intra-country social inequality declined due to an egalitarian revolution associated with the rise of Communism and the Golden Age decline in income inequality in Europe and the United States. After 1980, within-country social inequality increased strongly.
2. China, for example, has combined inherited and imported elements in new ways to mix state-owned enterprises, solely owned direct foreign investment, joint ventures, township and village enterprises, private enterprises, a rural household responsibility system, state/collective ownership of land, massive public assets, a unified state with strong political decentralization and fierce inter-jurisdictional competition, elite consultative democracy, a cadre responsibility system, a combination of Confucian, socialist and consumerist values, and a distinctive model of international relations, amongst others.
