Abstract
The reactions of Ph3SbCl2 and SbCl3 with semicarbazone and thiosemicarbazone ligands resulted in Ph3SbCl2(L) and SbCl3(L) (L = semicarbazone and thiosemicarbazone ligands). These complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H and 13C {1H} NMR spectral data, and conductometric measurements. On the basis of spectroscopic data, a seven-coordinate and a five-coordinate antimony with ligand coordination through oxygen/sulfur and azomethine nitrogen have been suggested for Ph3SbCl2(L) and SbCl3(L), respectively. These compounds show antifungal and antibacterial activities. Thermal behavior of some of the adducts have been studied by thermogravimetric analyses. Thermal decomposition of Ph3SbCl2(L) and SbCl3(L) resulted in micron size Sb and Sb2S3 particles. The materials obtained were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction patterns, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX).
