Abstract

A [Ag (bipy)2]+ modified butterfly-like hybrid network stabilized by [AlW12O40]5- polyoxoanions, formulated as [Ag(bipy)2]8[{Ag(bipy)}{AlW12O40}]2 (1) (bipy = 2,2’-bipyridine), has been synthesized hydrothermally and characterized by IR, XRD, TG, UV and single crystal X-ray diffraction. In 1, two [{Ag(bipy)}{AlW12O40}]4− polyanions form transverse units/longitudinal units through π-π stacking. The transverse units connect two adjacent longitudinal units by [Ag(bipy)2]+ to form a butterfly-like 1 D chain structure. Adjacent butterfly chains form a two-dimensional planar structure similar to the copper-like arrangement through supramolecular interactions of [AlW12O40]5− and [Ag(bipy)2]+. Further extension of the 2 D copper-like layers through supramolecular interaction gives a 3 D network. Compound 1 exhibits good charge transfer ability (Rct = 7.8Ω) and excellent electrocatalytic activity for H2O2 reduction. Compound 1 shows efficient degradation of RhB under ultraviolet light.
