Abstract
Anderson-type hexamolybdochromates [CoШ(bpy)3][CrMo6(OH)5 (OCH3)O18]·12H2O (1) and [CoШ(bpy)3][CrMo6(OH)6O18]·15H2O (2) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 shows the first example that the B-type Anderson polyanion is functionalized by methyl through dehydration between a nonacidic proton and hydroxyl group of methanol. When the pH changed, 2 has been obtained and contains two types of [Cr(OH)6Mo6O18]3- anions with different Cr − O bond lengths. The synthesis of 1 indicates that B-type Anderson polyanions can be functionalized by methyl group under proper reaction conditions; this suggests a new route to functionalize polyoxometalates to form organic-inorganic hybrids.
