Abstract
The aim of this work is to investigate the combustion, performance and emission characteristics of the direct injection (DI) Diesel engine running with Bio-diesel (BD) fuels blended with Multi walled Carbon Nano tubes (MWCNT) and to compare with those of neat Bio-diesels and Diesel fuel. The Palm and Jatropha oils are considered for experimentation and are transformed to Palm methyl ester (PME), Jatropha methyl ester by transesterfication process. Subsequently, PME and JME are dosed with MWCNT in the mass fractions of 25 ppm with the help of ultra-sonicator. The experiment is conducted in a naturally aspirated, single cylinder, four stroke, stationary, water cooled, direct injection diesel engine. The experimental results revealed a considerable enhancement in performance parameters and a marginal reduction in emissions for the MWCNT blended Biodiesel fuels compared to neat Biodiesels and diesel fuel.
