Abstract
Simple analytical expressions are presented for computing thermal stresses in fiber-reinforced composite beams with rectangular and hat sections due to change of temperature. For rectangular cross-sectional beam, both in-plane and interlaminar shear stresses were obtained. For hat cross-sectional beam, only in-plane stresses were investigated. The results obtained by the present method are in excellent agreement with the results obtained by ANSYS. It is concluded that the interlaminar shear stress for a composite beam with rectangular cross-section under a transverse load does not appear to be affected by temperature changes.
