Pages 155-172 | Published online: 17 Aug 2010

Abstract

This article explores the assumptions made by therapists adhering to modernist positions regarding Chinese American families. The assumptions from different models of therapy are presented, along with the assumptions made from a social constructionist point of view that focuses on the client's meaning system. A social constructionist therapeutic perspective is explored and applied to the Chinese American family.
