Abstract
The Engineering, Math and Physical Sciences Libraries (under the acronym EMPSL) reinvented outreach toward users. Two of these libraries, Engineering and Physical Sciences, transitioned into e-libraries after consolidation and closing of the physical stacks. Though study space remains, informing our users about this transition and our resources is challenging without physical stacks or traditional services desks, even as our online resources are prospering. Leveraging the image of an octopus, this article describes the flexible and intertwined nature of outreach all three libraries perform. The tentacles in the image all represent a different area of outreach: library events, social media, liaison efforts, library instruction, orientation, virtual services, professional development, and soon-to-be-discovered collaborative elements associated with Cornell's developing Tech Campus in NYC. Each area of outreach is exemplified with specifics and includes new virtual web presences, guided tours of the library annex (off-storage facility), Facebook and Twitter pages, and the ACS on Campus program held in April 2012.
