*Poster sessions were chosen to cover a range of therapy areas (ASCO: ‘Gynaecological Cancers’ and ‘Genitourinary Cancer—Prostate, Testicular, and Penile’ sessions; ESMO: ‘Gynaecological Cancers’ and ‘Genitourinary Tumours, Prostate’ sessions); ^†the same poster sessions were selected in 2021 as for 2020; ^‡poster numbers 1–168 (themes 1–4) were chosen to provide a similar sample size to the selected oncology poster sessions (any posters considered to be advertisements were excluded); ^§abstracts were not available on congress website (posters only); ^¶defined based on: having a prominent (central, left or top) conclusion or figure; use of size or colour to emphasise key messages; deviation from a traditional left-to-right poster layout; **trial-in-progress posters only; ^††defined as use of data visualisation and/or icons throughout main poster content (irrespective of reformed layout); ^‡‡QR codes that could not be accessed to verify content were excluded; ^§§other categories with n ≥ 5 overall were: slides (n = 17), study registries (n = 7).
