DESIGNING AND IMPLEMENTING A CAPSTONE GERONTOLOGY SEMINAR: SYNTHESIS AND ACTION

Pages 89-101 | Published online: 01 Sep 2006

Abstract

This paper focuses on the design and implementation of Gerontology: Synthesis and Action, the capstone seminar for the undergraduate and graduate certificate in gerontology program at Marylhurst University, a small, private liberal arts university in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area. The institutional and programmatic context in which this course is located is discussed along with the collaborative, adult-centered learning principles upon which it is predicated. Included are rich descriptions of the week-by-week unfolding of the course, as well as examples of the multifaceted learning projects that organized the ongoing spiral of review, synthesis, and enactment of our current gerontological understanding.
