ABSTRACT
Culture and ethnic diversity are critical factors in understanding the roles and well-being of grandparent caregivers. Values, beliefs, traditions continue to influence child rearing practices and may also be influential in persons’ responses to policies and services. Although culture can be a source of support, it can also create stress as persons feel they are not fulfilling expected roles or feel frustrated by demands of more assimilated grandchildren. Strengthening these families requires sensitivity to the cultures and concerns of diverse groups of grandparents at all levels of interventions.
