Abstract
The biodegradation behavior of polyhydroxybutyrate film in the presence of Pseudomonas mendocina DS04-T was studied and the degraded films were analyzed. The degradation was carried out in liquid basal medium in the presence of the strain for 52 h. Differential scanning calorimetry and scanning electron microscopy results revealed that the strain preferentially degraded the amorphous over the crystalline phase of the film during the initial stage of the degradation. Afterwards, the crystallized parts started to degraded. The center of the polyhydroxybutyrates pherocrystal was easily degraded. The thermogravimetric analysis revealed that the thermal stability of the degraded films decreases with the extent of degradation.
