By connecting these areas to individuals' scholarship, I do not mean to suggest that each person worked only in these areas or that these areas did not overlap for us. I offer these citations simply as examples and as homage to the feminists who “brought me up.”
It is likely that if I had read all 70 articles in their entirety I would have found some of the articles that I define as exclusively about women/femininity actually address additional issues and/or problematize these categories. And, of course, another scholar might categorize differently than I have.
I base this claim on a search of the UlrichsWeb Global Serials Directory for all new journals in the humanities and social sciences since 2000, limited to peer-reviewed and indexed English-language academic journals. I identified publications in this area by using that database's Ethnic Studies, Gender, and Lifestyle subject area modifier, as well as my own interpretation/knowledge of particular journals.
