7 The manifesto responds to the Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission report on violence against Indigenous people in Canada's “near past.” It advocates a quick end to fossil fuels extraction and use and a moratorium on new infrastructure projects for those purposes. The document was authored at a two-day summit involving indigenous leaders and signed by more than 40,000 leading Canadian figures including Naomi Klein, David Suzuki, Hassan Yussuff, Leonard Cohen, Maude Barlow, Alanis Morissette, Michael Ondaatje and Neil Young.
