Juan Villoro

Juan Villoro (Mexico City, 1956) has published many books, including short stories (La casa pierde [1999; The House Loses], Los culpables [2007; The Guilty, 2015]), novels (El testigo [2004], Arrecife [2012; The Reef, 2017]), and essays (El vértigo horizontal [2019; Horizontal Vertigo, 2021], on Mexico City). The following essay was adapted from his prologue “Cantera de la memoria” in Sergio Pitol’s Trilogía de la memoria (2008).
