Abstract
We propose a design of a highly litter (polarization beam splitter [PBS]) based on an indefinite medium. Due to the strong anisotropy, the splitting angle in the indefinite medium is controlled by the orientation angle and can reach to 90° which is much larger than that in a birefringence crystal (BC). Based on this property, a thin indefinite medium film can dramatically enlarge the walk-off distance between two light paths, making the PBS much more efficient and tunable. With the indefinite medium, this design may also inspire and prompt the improvement of the BC optical devices, such as an interferometer system.
