Abstract
The technology of reconditioning the end walls of mills is investigated. Calculations show and confirm that residual compressive stresses form on the outer surface of the journals of mills as a result of hardfacing the internal surface. These stresses are very high and increase the cracking resistance of the journals under the effect of working load.
