James Volkert has overseen major institutional design processes, facilitated architectural and exhibit design and nurtured institutional change for 40 years. He has developed and installed more than 350 exhibitions on the arts, science, and history and taught exhibition development for 10 years at the George Washington University.
As well, Volkert has served in senior management positions as a curator, exhibit designer, and most recently as associate director of the National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution, with broad responsibilities for the development and completion of facilities in New York and Washington, DC.
As principal of Exhibition Associates, he consults with institutions, both nationally and internationally.
