Acknowledgements
I am very grateful to Kathryn Travis, York University, Canada for her help with collating the statistics referred to in this article. I would like to thank Karen Morin and Rachel Silvey my co-book review editors in this period and to acknowledge comments from them and Pat Noxolo who takes over from me as a book review editor in 2008. I would also like to thank Hazel Christie, who was my predecessor as book review editor for her guidance and successive editors of Gender, Place and Culture, Lyn Staeheli, Gill Valentine, Linda Peake, Brenda Yeoh, Robyn Longhurst and Deborah Dixon. The views expressed here, however, remain my own.
Notes
1. Although we were able to classify the majority of authors by gender there were some authors we were unable to classify confidently by gender.
2. As incoming Editor Pat Noxolo is keen to expand her pool of potential reviewers so if you do want to be added to her list, please contact her directly ([email protected]) giving contact details and information about your expertise and interests.
3. One of the frustrations of a book review editor is not receiving books or alerts from publishers often despite many attempts to notify them about the journal.
4. This is also true if you are an author of book which you feel should be considered for review in Gender, Place and Culture. I have found that publishers are often not as active as you might hope in publicising new books on their lists to relevant journals.
