Figure 1. A promotional photo for The Naningos. Bassist Nii Mantse’s (aged 25) stage outfit displays pieces of Ghanaian kente on a denim waistcoat and as a headband, combined with Adidas sneakers. He is drinking from a coconut in Accra, Darkuman, where he grew up. The squiggle is an effect to highlight the artist, added by the photographer Kamasa (2019).
