Abstract
Japanese Love Hotels are a big industry in Japan, accounting for about 30,000 hotels and more than a million visits per day. Love hotels are also a source of fascination for westerners. This essay will examine some of the interesting intricacies of love hotels—locations, exteriors, advertising, rooms, furnishings, and bathrooms—using both words and pictures. Overall, the story illustrates the variety of ways that love hotels provide value for their customers—through the provision of a private space to lovers, anonymity, luxury, and convenience.
