Abstract
The history of collaboration and interaction between Van Orden and Kello is outlined, focusing on investigations of complex dynamic systems. These investigations led to work on 1/f noise, interaction-dominant dynamics, metastability, self-organized criticality, and soft assembly of neural and behavioral function. The essay is framed by connectionism as both the starting point and ending point for this brief history.
