Smoothing Difference Scheme in a Moving Particle Method

Pages 203-234 | Received 27 Apr 2011, Accepted 09 Jun 2011, Published online: 29 Aug 2011

Abstract

A smoothing difference scheme is offered to improve the solution accuracy of a newly developed moving particle method (moving particle with pressure mesh, MPPM). This scheme is devised by combining the essential features in the original particle smoothing procedure and Taylor-series analysis. By analyzing the accuracy order in model problems, it is proved to be an unconditionally consistent method to mimic differential operators. Numerical tests on some classic benchmark problems meticulously verify the usefulness of this proposed scheme. Indeed, it can provide as accurate results as a high-resolution finite-volume (FV) method. Therefore, it will be a useful tool to simulate incompressible flow phenomena.
