Psychotherapy, psychopathology, research and practice: Pathways of connections and integration

Abstract

This paper describes three pathways of connections between different communities of knowledge seekers: integration of psychotherapeutic approaches, integration of psychotherapy and psychopathology, and integration of science and practice. Some of the issues discussed involve the delineation and investigation of common factors (e.g., principles of change), improvement of major forms of psychotherapy, clinical implications of psychopathology research, as well as current and future directions related to practice-research networks. The aim of this paper is to suggest that building bridges across theoretical orientations, scientific fields, professional experiences, and epistemological views may be a fruitful strategy to improve our understanding and the impact of psychotherapy.

Este artigo descreve três formas de conexão entre diferentes comunidades de teóricos: integração de abordagens terapêuticas, integração de psicopatologia e psicoterapia, e integração de ciência e prática. Alguns destes assuntos discutidos envolvem a demarcação e investigação de factores comuns (e.g. princípios de mudança), o aperfeiçoamento da forma de psicoterapia, implicações clínicas da investigação de psicopatologia, bem como direcções actuais e futuras relacionadas com as redes de investigação prática. O objectivo deste artigo passa por sugerir que a interligação entre orientações teóricas, campos científicos e experiências professionais, e visões epidemiológicas pode ser uma estratégia produtiva para melhorar a compreensão do impacto da psicoterapia.

L'articolo descrive tre modi per mettere in connessione diverse comunità di crcatori di conoscenza: integrazione di approcci psicoterapeutici, integrazionedi psicoterapia e psicopatologia, ed integrazione di scienza e pratica. Alcune delle questioni discusse implicano l'individuazione e l'investigazione di fattori comuni (e.g. i principi di cambiamento), lo sviluppo di forme maggiori di psicoterapia le implicazioni per la ricerca psicopatologica, come anche le attuali e future direzioni legate alla pratica ed alla ricerca clinica. Lo scoppo del presente lavoro è suggerire come la costruzione di ponti tra orientamenti teorici, campi scientifici, esperienze professionali e prospettive epistemologiche può essere una strategia fruttuosa per aumentare la nostra conoscenza e l'impatto della psicoterapia.
