Abstract
The work presents a computer-aided method of content analysis applicable to verbatim transcripts of psychotherapy: the Automated Co-occurrence Analysis for Semantic Mapping (ACASM). ACASM is able to perform a context-sensitive strategy of analysis aimed at mapping the meanings of the text through a trans-theoretical procedure. The paper is devoted to the presentation of the method and testing its validity. To the latter end we have compared ACASM and independent blind human coders on two tasks of content analysis: (a) estimating the semantic similarity between two utterances; (b) the semantic classification of a set of utterances. Results highlight that: (a) ACASM's estimates of semantic similarity are consistent with the corresponding estimates provided by coders; (b) coders’ agreement and coder-ACASM agreement on the task of semantic classification have the same magnitude. Results lead to the conclusion that the content analysis produced by ACASM is indistinguishable from that performed by human coders.

Il presente lavoro presenta un metodo computerizzato (computer-aided) di analisi dei contenuti applicabile alle trascrizioni verbatim di psicoterapia: la Automated Co-occurrence Analysis for Semantic Mapping (ACASM). ACASM è in grado di eseguire una strategia sensibile al contesto di analisi volta a mappare i significati del testo attraverso una procedura trans-teorica. Il presente lavoro è dedicato alla presentazione del metodo e a testare la sua validità. Infine abbiamo confrontato ACASM e con un codificatore indipendente su due compiti di analisi del contenuto: (a) stima della similarità semantica tra due enunciati, (b)classificazione semantica di un insieme di enunciati. I risultati evidenziano che: (a) le stime di ACASM sulla similarità semantica corrispondono alle stime fornite dai corrispondenti codificatori, (b) l'accordo tra i giudici e tra il giudice e l'ACASM sul compito di classificazione semantica hanno la stessa intensità. I risultati portano alla conclusione che l'analisi di contenuto prodotta da ACASM è indistinguibile da quella eseguita da codificatori esperti.

RÉSUMÉ
Ce travail présente une méthode assistée par ordinateur d'analyse de contenu applicable aux retranscriptions verbatim de psychothérapie : L'analyse de co-occurrence pour une cartographie sémantique (ACASM). L'ACASM est capable d'effectuer des stratégies d'analyses sensibles au contexte visant à la cartographie du sens d'un texte en fonction d'une procédure transthéorique. L'article est dédié à la présentation de la méthode et au test de sa validité. Pour cette dernière, nous avons comparé l'ACASM avec des codeurs humains indépendants et aveugles sur deux tâches d'analyse de contenu : (a) estimer la similarité sémantique entre deux énoncés ; (b) classification sémantique d'un ensemble d’énoncés. Les résultats mettent en lumière que (a) les estimations de la similarité d'ACASM sont cohérentes avec les estimations correspondantes fournies par les codeurs ; (b) l'accord entre codeurs et l'accord codeurs-ACASM sur la tâche de classification sémantique ont la même magnitude. Les résultats permettent de conclure que l'analyse de contenu produite par l'ACASM n'est pas distinguable de celle effectuée par des codeurs humains.

O trabalho apresenta um método computorizado de análises de conteúdo aplicável às transcrições de psicoterapia Verbatim: the Automated Co-occurrence Analysis for Semantic Mapping (ACASM). A ACASM permite desenvolver uma estratégia de análise sensível ao contexto com o objectivo de mapear os significados do texto através do procedimento transteórico. O presente artigo tem o objectivo de apresentar o método e testar a sua validade. Ainda, comparou-se o ACASM e dois codificadores humanos independentes em duas tarefas de análise de conteúdo: (a) estimar a similaridade semântica entre dois enunciados; b) estimar a classificação semântica de um conjunto de enunciados. Os resultados demonstraram que (a) a avaliação do ACASM na similaridade semântica é consistente com as avaliações realizadas pelos codificadores; (b) o acordo entre codificadores e do ACASM na tarefa da classificação semântica tem a mesma magnitude. Estes resultados conduzem à conclusão de que a análise de conteúdo produzida pela ACASM é indistinguível da análise realizada pelos codificadores humanos.
Abstract
Die vorliegende Arbeit präsentiert eine computerunterstützte Methode der Inhaltsanalyse zur Anwendung auf Verbatimtranskripten von Psychotherapiesitzungen: Die Automated Co-occurrence Analysis for Semantic Mapping (ACASM). ACASM ist in der Lage eine kontext sensitive Strategie der Analyse zur Abbildung der Bedeutung eines Textes durch ein trans-theoretisches Verfahren durchzuführen. Der Artikel widmet sich der Darstellung der Methode sowie der Überprüfung ihrer Validität. Letzteres wurde über den Vergleich von ACASM mit unabhängigen, blinden, menschlichen Kodierern bei folgenden zwei Aufgaben der Inhaltsanalyse ermittelt: (a) Die Bewertung der semantischen Ähnlichkeit zweier Äußerungen; (b) Die semantische Klassifikation eines Sets von Äußerungen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen auf, dass: (a) ACASM′s Bewertungen semantischer Ähnlichkeit stimmen mit denen der Kodierer überein; (b) Die Einigkeit zwischen Kodierern untereinander und zwischen Kodierern und ACASM bezüglich der Aufgabe semantischer Klassifikation die gleiche Größe hat. Die Ergebnisse führen zu der Schlussfolgerung, dass die Inhaltsanalysen der ACASM nicht von denjenigen menschlicher Kodierer zu unterscheiden sind.
