Abstract

Bi3.15Nd0.85Ti3O12 ceramics were prepared using conventional solid state reaction method and their internal frictions were measured. Two IF peak were detected around 453 K and 532 K. The one, appeared at 453 K originates from the migration of oxygen vacancies among those unequal oxygen positions in lattice of ceramics. Another appeared around 532 K, which was far below the Curie point (around 890 K), was ascribed to the interaction between oxygen vacancies and 90° domain walls. These results can be helpful in understanding the fatigue mechanism in ferroelectric materials.
