Mashups, Sampling, and Authorship: A Mashupsampliography

Pages 229-239 | Received 02 Feb 2008, Accepted 16 Sep 2008, Published online: 22 Dec 2008

Abstract

Since the invention of sound recording technology, people have found creative ways to use it to present “new” music. A current trend is the mashup, a particularly contentious practice because of its seeming disregard for the concepts of authorship and copyright. This selective bibliography is intended to introduce readers to this growing enterprise, fueled by the technological advances of recent years.
