Abstract
Entertainment media shape audience perceptions about various demographic groups, including Black Americans. Researchers took a summative approach to performing a qualitative content analysis of the self-reflections and interactions that Randall Pearson experiences on the U.S. American television series This Is Us. Frames related to Black identity, masculinity, adoption, and mental health are discussed.
Notes
1 Randall was briefly given the name “Kyle” (Fogelman, Citation2016–2018). Kyle-related interactions are included in this analysis.
