Abstract

Arganines A, C, D, tieghemelin, fatty acids, and steroid alcohols were isolated and purified in a total study of the seeds of Tieghemella heckelii by diverse chromatography methods. The hexane extracts yielded nine fatty acids and sixteen steroid alcohols resolved by gas chromatography, whilst the water extract gave three relatively homogenous compounds using TLC analysis, and further studies with NMR revealed the arganines previously cited. The optimization of saponins was achieved by the HSCCC method. Aside from this, conversion of Tieghemelin to Arganine C has been fulfilled to seek for the increment of the yield of the most active compound and avoidance of separation of both saponins. Here, we report the isolation and the chemical analysis of the named constituents of the seeds.
